50mm Magic

Ok Ladies and Gents, you will see a new lens, literally glued to the front of my camera at all new events, it has quickly become my favorite, a Nikon 50mm f/1.8D. Magical thing, though I couldn’t justify the extra $300 for an extra 1/3rd of a stop of light, when this one is simply brilliant.

I have been told by numerous photographers to get one of these baby’s, though have always put it off, and I have no idea why, after getting one at the local store for just over $200 AUD, I got it home, and my jaw dropped. This lens blurs backgrounds like nothing else, stick it on 1.8, focus on an object, and everything else gets magically blurred away, bringing the in focus object to immediate attention, something that I could only dream of doing in photoshop.

Apart from that amazing fact, the quality of this lens still astounds me. It seems kind of wrong, but Nikon’s cheapest lens is also its sharpest, yes, even sharper than the bank breaker 70-200 VR, when I stick this lens on f/4, anything will jump out and bite me, thats how sharp it is.

There are numerous sample shots from this lens on the web, so I wont bore you, but I will be uploading a post soon with my favorite 5 shots in the first week of this lenses life.

Changes to the Site

As you may have noticed, there have been some very significant changes to the site today, and this is all because of an upgrade of web development software at our end, an upgrade to iWeb 09. This software is simply awesome, simple to use, and much nicer to update.

Hopefully the site is running for you with-ought glitches, if it is, please let us know, we will be onto it in a flash.

Wake Wars 2009

Yay, the time finally came today to go down to lake Patawalonga in Glenelg for a day in the sun on the water in the tow boat, shooting the mega event of Wake Wars 2009, one of Australia’s biggest premier wakeboarding events, and right on time, our photos are online.

The day was a major success, and having a couple of friends helping by shooting at different angles, I don’t think there is a single moment that any of us missed. You can view the gallery here, and there is a link in the gallery to our new store, where you can purchase images, prints or images, or anything else to do with the images .

Our New Addition

Well, after many months of saving, we finally forked out to get what would be a rather large lens, in fact, so large, that it weighs over a kilo and extends over 25 cm. Its the latest relative of the Bigma, the Sigma APO 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM. Basically a nice big zoom lens capable of getting in nice and close to the action.

You can read an in depth review of the lens here, though all I can say so far it is beautiful, perfectly balanced, sharp as a tack and with the vibration reduction feature, can shoot at 1/6oth of a second at 500mm, thats slowwwww.
